“It just makes it okay for guys to call you sluts and whores. Who here has ever been called a slut?” (Quote from Mean Girls)

What better way to start off this post than with that quote from a wonderful movie I know most of us enjoy? Especially when it is exactly what I think we need to talk about right now. And it’s something I hate talking about, but I know I’ll have to over and over so long as this is part of my life.

Tag Chasers.

On twitter it seems like there is always someone calling someone else a tag chaser. Much like the civilian girlfriend calls any girl she has a problem with a whore or a slut, I feel like MilitarySOs tend to throw around the term “Tag Chaser” with a little too much liberty. Tag Chasers are girls who try to hook up with as many military guys as possible. They got their name from the girls who would take the fog tags of guys after sleeping with them. Tag Chasers are not the girls who have been in committed relationships with multiple military guys because that just happens. You are not a tag chaser if you think to yourself that military guys as a whole exhibit a lot of the character traits that you admire and want in a boyfriend. You are not a Tag Chaser if you end up breaking up with your boyfriend and then find yourself attracted to a man in the military again. You are not a tag chaser if you happen to meet a guy already in the military who you make a real connection with and end up falling in love with him. Tag Chasing has nothing to do with when or how you met the man you now call yours.

You are a Tag Chaser if you seek out and sleep with as many guys in as many branches as possible. You are a Tag Chaser if you don’t care about the guy, you just want to get him out of the uniform for the night. You are a Tag Chaser if you hop from serviceman to serviceman every other night. Basically Tag Chasers are little sluts.

So can we please stop throwing around this term like it’s nothing? Not everyone who pisses you off deserves to be called a Tag Chaser. The term actually implies a lot more than what we are treating it as. We use it like it’s no big deal, but it is.

I just ask that we start trying to reserve it for when a real Tag Chaser comes around. How else are they going to know we’re serious when we tell them how it is?
